The Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t go as far as they wanted in the playoffs, but they are still one of the most important teams in the Eastern Conference.
They are being guided by Donovan Mitchell, who has embraced his role as the team’s leader.
Speaking on “Time Out,” Dwyane Wade talked about Mitchell and the standard that he is now being held to.
“Donovan [Mitchell]’s at a different level now. He’s judged by what he does in the playoffs. What he does in the regular season, that’s what he do—he’s been doing it since he came into the league. Now, this is where he’s judged. He has to find a way because he wants to be in that conversation with the greats. I want to see what his summer’s going to be like. I’m looking at Don, and I’m like, ‘I need to see it,'” Wade said.
Mitchell is learning about the good and bad that come with being a team leader.
With more success comes more challenges and higher expectations.
Following his team’s loss in the playoffs, a lot of analysts and commentators questioned Mitchell and the way he pushes his team.
Do the Cavaliers need more than what Mitchell can provide?
Mitchell told the press that he is taking full responsibility for how he played in the postseason and revealed that he’s not content with where his team is.
He is demanding more from himself and the rest of his team.
He knows that a lot of people are watching and judging him and he is okay with that because he is also judging how well he is doing.
Wade thinks that Mitchell is doing really well, but he knows he has to keep it up because the spotlight is shining brightly on him.
