The Cleveland Cavaliers overcame a tough matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies.
As it usually is with a team like that, the game was utterly physical, and every bucket was hard to get.
To add insult to injury, Darius Garland was out with a hip contusion, and his backup, Ty Jerome, picked up three quick fouls in the first half.
Even so, Jerome finished the game with a whopping 26 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter.
That’s why Donovan Mitchell tipped his hat to him.
Following the win, the former Utah Jazz guard claimed that this shouldn’t be a surprise at this point, as that’s just the kind of player Jerome has proven to be (via Dillybar 2145):
āHeās done this for a long enough amount [of time] that I think we just have to understand this is Ty Jerome. There is no looking at him like āman, this is a shock, as surprisedā. This is him. He has the ultimate confidence⦠heās been doing this since I was 8⦠this is who he is for our group. Especially to keep his head when getting 3 quick fouls in the 1st half. Thatās a mental fortitude that I really truly respect,” said Mitchell.

It’s hard to argue with that statement at this point.
Jerome has been huge for the team this season, especially every single time he’s been called to fill in as a starter.
Mitchell and Garland have been able to trust him to run the offense or play off the ball, and he’s the kind of hard-working player who’s going to leave everything on the court even when he’s not getting touches.
Jerome has been this team’s prime reinforcement.
He barely played last year because of an injury, and he’s given the Cavs a massive boost off the bench.
The fact that he’s not leading the race to win Sixth Man of the Year is hard to fathom.
Then again, he’s not one to care too much about recognition or awards; he just wants to win.
