The Cleveland Cavaliers recently hosted the Los Angeles Lakers for a recent matchup in the 2023-24 NBA season.
Despite the Cavaliers recently getting one game above the .500 mark, they couldn’t stop the Lakers from registering a 121-115 victory over them.
It was the LeBron James and Anthony Davis show for the Purple and Gold as the two superstars combined for 54 points against the Cavs.
As for the Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell led the team with 22 points against the Lakers.
After the crushing defeat, Mitchell took responsibility for the loss, as revealed via Evan Dammarell on Twitter.
“If there’s any criticism then it’s on me. I have to be better,” Mitchell said.

Donovan Mitchell put up 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists against the Los Angeles Lakers.
While Mitchell could have been better, it would have been unfair to put the entire blame on him.
Sure, he’s averaging 28.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game for the Cavs in the 2023-24 NBA season.
There are many talented players on the roster who can also pick up the slack if Mitchell struggles on any given night.
But to put things into perspective, Mitchell did shoot just 4 of 18 from the field.
Considering Mitchell is the primary superstar on the roster, the rest of the team’s morale must have taken a huge hit after seeing him struggle against the Lakers.
Following the loss, the Cavaliers have fallen to an 8-8 record in the regular season.
The record puts the Cavs in the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Can the Cavaliers still bounce back after the close defeat against the Lakers? Well, fans will find out when the organization plays its next game.
