If the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to commit to trades this summer, they need to be smart about it.
The worst thing they can do is make a move where they don’t get enough in return for one of their players, especially if it’s one of their big stars.
Speaking on the “Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show,” Mike Lucas said that the Cavaliers might be smart to trade someone like Darius Garland, but they need to be careful when they do.
“I understand the thought process of moving on from Darius [Garland], and for the right deal, I am all open to doing it. But, you have to be able to get guys back that can create offense because I don’t think Donovan [Mitchell] can handle that load for a series in a row like we saw against Indiana,” Lucas said.

Garland would fetch them a big return on the trade market, but would the Cavaliers make the right move?
Who would they get in exchange?
Would they really help Donovan Mitchell and the rest of the team?
The Cavaliers are in a tough spot because the team is already so good, but just not good enough.
They now run the risk of trying to make it better but messing things up and going backwards.
The team is a wonderful regular-season squad, but they clearly need more help when it comes to the playoffs.
What are their best options, and what NBA players could give them what they need?
The front office needs to be very careful in the weeks ahead because fans are watching closely and anything short of a perfect trade will be heavily criticized, especially if the team loses Garland in it.
