The Cleveland Cavaliers silenced the crowd in Miami on Saturday, delivering a knockout performance that has them on the verge of a series sweep.
The visiting Cavs dismantled the Miami Heat 124-87 in a display of playoff-caliber toughness that few expected on the road.
Their defensive lockdown held Miami under 90 points in a game the Heat desperately needed to win, pushing Cleveland’s advantage to 3-0 in the best-of-seven series.
Kenny Atkinson, the Cavaliers’ head coach, broke down his team’s dominant Game 3 showing in the postgame press conference.
“It was a collective effort, a collective focus on the road,” said Atkinson. “We executed the game plan. Won the rebounding. In the second half, they raised their level … maybe three levels. We were missing shots. But we met their level.”
The numbers backed up Atkinson’s assessment, with the Cleveland Cavaliers thoroughly controlling the glass.
They outrebounded Miami 46-29 while establishing complete dominance inside, where they outscored the Heat 60-30 in the paint.
Their commitment to attacking the interior paid dividends throughout the contest.
Jarrett Allen nearly couldn’t miss, finishing with 22 points on an efficient 8-of-9 shooting night.
What made the victory even more impressive was that Donovan Mitchell, typically the offensive centerpiece, contributed just 13 points while struggling on 4-for-14 shooting.
With Darius Garland sidelined, many expected Mitchell would need to shoulder a heavier scoring load, but the Cavaliers’ balanced attack rendered that unnecessary.
Atkinson’s coaching shined brightly in Garland’s absence. His strategic emphasis on interior play allowed both Allen and Evan Mobley to establish dominance around the rim, creating a blueprint for success that Miami simply had no answer for.
