Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers just won Defensive Player of the Year, a major accomplishment for his young career and a testament to how well he has played this season.
Winning DPOY won’t just raise his profile, it’ll also increase his income.
According to Bobby Marks, the Cavaliers will now have to pay Mobley more because of this prize.
He was set to earn a bit more than $38 million next season with his original extension, which was signed in July.
Because of an agreement in his contract, he will now earn more than $46 million next season, followed by $50 million in 2026-27, $53 million in 2027-28, $57 million in 2028-29, and $61 million in 2029-30.

Mobley will now essentially earn about $10 million more every season, which is quite the price tag for the Cavaliers.
But he’s clearly worth it because he has had an incredible season and has been a lynch pin for the Cavaliers on both ends of the court.
This award has been a long time coming for Mobley, who has been an important part of the team’s frontcourt since joining them in 2021.
He has always been talented, but fans have been asking for more from him throughout his career.
This year, he has taken things to another level and averaged 18.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game.
With this win, Mobley will earn more and will be an even more crucial part of the team’s lineup.
He is signed with the Cavs through 2029-30, and it seems very likely that they will try to keep him for all of that.
Mobley is reaching his potential, but it feels like he could grow even more in the years ahead.
