The Cleveland Cavaliers were looking quite shaky while mired in a four-game losing streak that came on the heels of a 16-game winning streak, but they have since restored some faith with three wins in a row ahead of a matchup with the Detroit Pistons.
The Cavs are catching the Pistons at a good time as star point guard Cade Cunningham will miss the game with a calf injury, but Detroit isn’t the only team going into the matchup a little banged up.
“Max Strus is out tonight (right ankle injury management). Ty Jerome also out (left knee soreness),” Cavs sideline reporter Serena Winters wrote on X.

Cleveland is likely locked into the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, though the Boston Celtics are on a seven-game winning streak and have made up some ground thanks to the Cavs’ recent skid.
With nine regular season games remaining, it’s likely the Cavs will be a little conservative, which is what they could be doing by resting two rotational pieces to ensure they are at their best in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
With Strus and Jerome out, it likely will mean more minutes for Isaac Okoro and Sam Merrill.
It’s no time for the Cavs to push it, especially on the second night of a back-to-back after defeating the San Antonio Spurs.
Ideally, it would be nice for the Cavs to get up big and put this one away early so the starters can get some rest, but the Pistons never make things easy, even with Cunningham out.
