The Cleveland Cavaliers are perhaps the most well-rounded and balanced team in the league.
That doesn’t necessarily mean they have the best roster, but they might have the best fit and combination of players.
That was evident again in a narrow win vs. the Charlotte Hornets.
With Donovan Mitchell far from his best, the team had to rely on some unusual players to take care of business.
Fortunately for them, just like the case for most of the season, the role players stepped up when they were called upon to take the court.
That was certainly the case with Sam Merrill.
As pointed out by the team on social media, the sharpshooting backup didn’t miss a single shot from the field, going 4-of-4 from beyond the arc en route to 12 points.

He made some timely shots to keep the team in front in a game that was much closer than it should’ve been.
Of course, that stat line also speaks volumes about his role with the team.
This is a make-or-miss league, which means role players need to make the most of every single touch they have if they want to continue taking the court.
Merrill isn’t a superstar by any means, but he’s someone who plays within his role and does what is asked of him.
That’s been Kenny Atkinson’s formula for success this season, and while the core four deserves a lot of credit, this team has excelled as a whole.
