The Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t need to add a lot of pieces after such a strong start to the season.
That’s why they were very thorough in their assessments of the kind of player they needed to acquire.
De’Andre Hunter was a tailor-made fit for what they needed, and Javonte Green wasn’t that far behind.
While he’s not the lights-out three-point shooter Hunter is, Green is a bruiser and the kind of player who’s going to put his body on the line and make hustle plays left and right, regardless of the scoreboard.
Notably, that was evident in the 22-point road win over the Chicago Bulls.
As pointed out by The Cavs Jack on X, Green made the most of his first meaningful minutes with the team.
The former New Orleans Pelicans small forward closed out the game with 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists in 18 minutes.

He also knocked down a couple of three-pointers and was 4-of-5 from the field.
Of course, the Cavs don’t need him to do much – if any – scoring, but it’s still nice to see him get into a rhythm and acclimated to the team’s offensive system.
Green played some strong defense to help the Cavs come back from a 15-point deficit and get their 51st win of the regular season.
Signing him may have flown under the radar, but that move, just like the De’Andre Hunter trade, could end up being what leads this team over the top in a seven-game series against a championship contender.
