The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to have their way with almost all of their opponents, and with a 44-10 record, they comfortably sit atop the Eastern Conference and are half a game behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the best record in the NBA.
They ran past the Toronto Raptors, 131-108, on Wednesday for their fourth straight win, but after the final horn, there were some extracurricular activities involving veteran big man Tristan Thompson.
Thompson, a seldom-used player who was a member of Cleveland’s 2016 championship-winning squad, scored on a dunk with four seconds left, and Scottie Barnes and Jamal Shead of the Raptors took issue with it.
Both Raptors players talked trash to Thompson, and Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic also got into it.
Rajakovic said that Thompson’s dunk was “disrespectful,” and Thompson fired back on X.
You wanna full court press with under a minute left in the game when you get cracked by 30 this will happen to you. Lose for draft lottery and be happy buddy boy. Hopefully you and most of your guys see the light at the end of Bobby and Masai long term plan. Bless up stay warm in… https://t.co/9bsEnB9geb

There is an unwritten rule in the NBA that when a team has the basketball for the final possession of a game and it has a win wrapped up, it isn’t supposed to attempt a shot, but at the same time, it can be argued that it isn’t worth it for the other team to take issue with an opponent taking a shot in that situation.
As Thompson alluded to in his reaction tweet, the Raptors are 17-38 and have the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference, and they are in contention for the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes.
Meanwhile, the Cavs continue to inch closer to what could end up being a magical run in this year’s NBA playoffs.
