The Cleveland Cavaliers just suffered their fifth loss of the NBA season.
That’s not a sentence one would usually write after 38 games, so that speaks volumes about how great the Cavs have been this year.
Of course, most people will rave about Donovan Mitchell, and rightfully so, but he hasn’t been the only one responsible for their success.
If anything, Evan Mobley is finally taking a leap and showing what he’s capable of.
As shown by StatMuse on X, Mobley is averaging career highs in points per game (19.0) and steals per game (1.0).

He’s also averaging 8.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.
But more impressively, he has the second-highest box plus-minus in the league, all while shooting 57% from the floor and 41% from beyond the arc.
Mobley was never known for his floor-spacing skills.
He had shown some promise in that regard, but he had rarely taken shots from downtown and wasn’t very efficient as a three-point shooter.
His efficiency has taken a big leap even though his attempts have increased.
Mobley’s offensive game has shown new layers this season.
He can go left and finish with both hands, and he’s also been comfortable taking the ball up the floor.
His chemistry with Jarrett Allen has also noticeably improved.
With their one-two big-man game, they’ve been a perennial alley-oop threat.
Mobley was always deemed the team’s X-Factor to reach the next level.
So far, those who said that were right all along.
