The Cleveland Cavaliers are dominating the NBA landscape, riding high after impressive victories over the Western Conference leaders Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday and the Toronto Raptors the next night.
Their remarkable 33-4 record not only tops the Eastern Conference but stands as the best in the entire league.
Head coach Kenny Atkinson recently shared his thoughts on managing team expectations and the unique challenge of facing opponents multiple times in quick succession.
In a conversation with reporters, captured by 92.3 The Fan’s Daryl Ruiter, Atkinson laid out his team’s approach.
“We have our own internal kind of expectations, what we want as a team but we’re really focused on the day-to-day, like day to day, just kind of maximizing each day to the utmost,” Atkinson explained.

The Cavaliers’ head coach stressed the importance of staying grounded despite the mounting expectations that come with such a talented roster.
He particularly praised his team’s humility and their grasp of the bigger picture, noting how well the locker room has handled the pressure.
Atkinson also found value in the challenge of back-to-back games and frequent matchups against the same teams, viewing them as playoff-style tests where adjustments and familiarity play crucial roles.
One key to the Cavaliers’ success has been Atkinson’s strategic rotation management. By utilizing up to 11 players per game, he’s managed to keep the team’s stars – Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, and Evan Mobley – fresh and healthy.
This approach has proven vital in maintaining the team’s energy levels throughout this demanding season.
