The two best teams in the NBA will meet on Wednesday night for the ultimate bragging rights.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will host the red-hot Oklahoma City Thunder for a game between the two No. 1 seeds in the league.
As Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press pointed out, this will be just the third time in NBA history that two teams with active winning streaks of at least ten games will meet.
The Cavs-Thunder game will be the third in NBA history pitting two teams with active winning streaks of at least 10 games.
The others:
2/29/00, Lakers vs. Blazers
1/26/95, Jazz vs. SuperSonics (the great @JohnCrottyHEAT having six points and four assists for Utah in its win)— Tim Reynolds (@ByTimReynolds) January 6, 2025
That happened in 1995 when the Utah Jazz squared off vs. the Seattle Supersonics, and then in 2000 when the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers met.
The Cavaliers have won ten games in a row, all by at least ten points, the longest streak of double-digit wins in the league and franchise history.
The Thunder, on the other hand, are riding a league-best 15-game winning streak.
If the Cavs win, they will continue to be the sole owners of the best record in the Association.
Should the Thunder win, on the other hand, they would both be tied at 31-5.
It doesn’t get any closer than that.
We’re talking about two up-and-coming teams that have been a couple of steps ahead of their opposition this season.
More than that, even though we still have more than half of the season ahead of us, this could even be a preview of the NBA Finals.
Both teams must approach this game as a playoff game, and it might be the best game of the regular season so far.
