The Cleveland Cavaliers want to make a statement.
They’ve been knocking on the door of contention for years, but not many had them as a clear-cut candidate entering this year.
It’s been eleven games, and they have yet to lose one.
Most coaches and players would’ve claimed they don’t pay that much attention to that.
They would most likely offer a PR-trained answer stating that they’re not focused on records and just want to win, taking things one game at a time, and so on.
Kenny Atkinson, however, isn’t like most coaches.
Following the big comeback win over the Brooklyn Nets, the Cavs’ new coach admitted that they pay attention to the winning streak (via Spencer German).

He talked about how they didn’t want it to end that way.
As many as 13.5 points favored the Cavs before tip-off, and while they failed to cover the spread, they impressed with a 26-11 run to close out the five-point triumph.
It’s still way too early in the season, and the Cavs have 71 games remaining in their schedule, so thinking about the Golden State Warriors’ record might be counterproductive for them.
Also, they will have to prioritize health and the long run over immediate success and accolades, especially late in the season.
But for now, this team is doing the right thing by finding something to draw motivation from.
They’re competing hard on every possession, and that’s all you can ask for as a coach.
