Darius Garland hasn’t played as much as he’d like in 2023-24 but he has still done wonderful things for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In fact, Garland just surpassed Cavaliers legend Austin Carr on the list of all-time assist leaders in franchise history.
Garland moved past Carr’s 1,820 assists and now sits at 1,827.
After Thursday night’s win over the Brooklyn Nets, Garland spoke to Bally Sports Cleveland about overtaking Carr in the rankings.
“It low-key hurts, but that’s my guy!” Garland said, stating that he is proud of what he has done but hates to beat Carr, who often gives him advice and has remained close to him over the years.

However, Carr is very excited about the entire situation.
Speaking after the game, he said, “That’s progress! I love it!”
Garland has accomplished this incredible feat after just playing for four years with the Cavaliers.
Ever since he was drafted by the team in 2019, Garland has averaged 18.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 6.6 assists.
This season has been filled with challenges but things are looking much better for Garland and his team.
Back in December, he suffered a severe jaw injury after colliding with Kristaps Porzingis of the Boston Celtics and missed weeks.
But he’s been back for multiple games now and is looking more and more like his regular self again.
During Thursday’s game, he posted 14 points and 7 assists.
Garland has been a vital part of the team’s backcourt and has improved his game over the years, focusing not only on scoring but also on helping his teammates create opportunities too.
This has led to him becoming a part of Cavaliers history.
