Finding a trustworthy three-point shooter is undoubtedly an essential step in becoming a successful team in the modern era of the NBA.
Previously, the Cleveland Cavaliers had lacked the presence of a phenomenal shooter from the deep.
However, the rise of Sam Merrill has changed that for the 2016 NBA champions.
Merrill has earned a name for himself as one of the league’s premier three-point shooters this season, thanks to his insane efficiency from downtown.
Speaking of which, Merrill has even surpassed Stephen Curry and James Harden in an elite three-point shooting category, as revealed via The Ringer on Twitter.
He shoots more 3-pointers than Prime Steph, and his team is nearly unbeatable when he has a green light. Meet Sam Merrill, the greatest 3-point shooter you’ve never heard of.@dannychau: https://t.co/Vcl7KXysWt

As per the report, Merrill is attempting 17.7 three-pointers per 100 possessions this season, and that’s the highest mark for a player logging in at least 300 minutes in a season.
In comparison, James Harden attempted 17.6 three-pointers per 100 possessions during the 2018-19 NBA season, while Curry attempted 17.5 three-pointers per 100 possessions during the 2020-21 NBA season.
Merrill is currently surpassing both of these previous records as he continues to impress the NBA community with his skill to shoot the ball from downtown.
As far as his performance is concerned, Merrill has averaged 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game for the Cavaliers this season.
However, he is currently shooting 42.8% from the field and 43.2% from the three-point line this season.
Considering Merrill has played 27 games this season while not starting even a single game proves that he has a bright future in the NBA.
In fact, Merill is currently attempting 6 three-pointers while playing just 16.6 minutes per game.
