The Cleveland Cavaliers aren’t really in their best form during the 2023-24 NBA season.
Sure, the Cavs seemingly started to hit their stride in mid-November, but in December, the organization has started to struggle again.
While there are obvious concerns about keeping multiple big men in the rotation at the same time, there’s another factor that is undoubtedly a key reason behind the team’s struggles.
NBA analyst Carter Rodriguez recently pointed out in one of his posts on Twitter that the Cavaliers are currently in the bottom 10 on the list of halfcourt offense.
A real sign of concern for the Cavaliers this season:
The Halfcourt offense. Since Nov. 15, the team is 9-5.
Despite that improved play, the halfcourt offense ranks 22nd at 97.0 Points/100 per CTGLast year, Cleveland had the 10th best halfcourt Pts/100 at 99.8.

As mentioned in the tweet, the Cavaliers are currently in 22nd place with 97.0 points per 100 possessions in terms of halfcourt offense.
The inability to generate great offensive plays from halfcourt has significantly reduced the effectiveness of the team’s scoring against most teams.
On the other hand, the same Cavaliers team was the 10th-best halfcourt offense last season.
The team averaged 99.8 points per 100 possessions in the halfcourt offense during the 2022-23 NBA season.
While the margin between the points may not seem herculean, it has certainly had a huge effect on the team’s ability to score the basketball with consistency.
Keeping that in mind, it’s no surprise that the Cleveland Cavaliers are currently the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 13-11 record.
Moreover, the Cavs are currently on a two-game losing streak which only adds to their recent struggles.
