Donovan Mitchell seemed to be in control during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Game 1 against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night, and then, seemingly suddenly, it all fell apart, and Mitchell wasn’t looking like the star player he usually is. He was only able to put up three points in the fourth quarter, which helped the Knicks secure a tie and head to overtime, where they won.
Speaking on 92.3 The Fan, Timothy Legler talked about what Mitchell lacked during Game 1 and how things could have been different.
“He was out there, you gotta go get the basketball… Why he wasn’t initiating the offense, You would’ve forced a completely different reaction from the Knicks if Mitchell was up there involved with a high ball screen or an iso,” Legler said.

Mitchell was the first person to criticize himself after the game, but he made it clear to the fans that the Cavs would come back. They are all very disappointed by how they handed away Game 1, but they swear they will bounce back.
If that is going to happen, Mitchell will need to deliver wire-to-wire greatness. He has become the team’s leader, and a lot of their success hinges on him. James Harden and others help, of course, but Mitchell is the go-to guy when it comes to running offensive schemes.
It has been a long offseason, and Mitchell has been through a lot. Still, the team is now at the Eastern Conference Finals, so there is no reason not to be at 100 percent for every single game.
It is important for Mitchell and everyone else to remember that these games sometimes run long and overtime is possible. On top of that, the series could run on and on.
It’s vital to have the right energy and mindset for every second of every game.
