The Cleveland Cavaliers have high expectations for the new season, and they know they need to meet them.
Not only do they have a lot of talent on the roster, but they also have a ton of big contracts on their books.
Writing for Bleacher Report, Dan Favale said the Cavaliers will be one of the most desperate franchises in the NBA in 2025-26.
“Pressure in Cleveland mushrooms further when looking at its operating costs. The Cavs are the sole team in the second apronāand they’re almost $20 million above the threshold. When factoring in projected luxury taxes, this roster is about to run nearly $400 million.Ā Anything short of an Eastern Conference Finals appearance will invariably force Cleveland to recalibrate. And with Mitchell entering a contract year after this one (2027-28 player option), even that might not be enough to stave off the winds of significant change,” FavaleĀ wrote.
The Cavaliers are spending buckets of money, so it needs to be worth it.
If they don’t go far in the playoffs, there is no doubt that they will have to shake things up and ship some players out.
The good news is that they were the best team in the East last year, at least during the regular season.
But they hit some massive speed bumps when they entered the playoffs, and they wish to avoid them next time.
People expect a strong run during the regular season, but that won’t be enough for this team.
They have their sights set on the Finals, and if they don’t go that far, the Cavaliers are going to be transformed.
They know they are one of the most capable teams in the league, but the Cavaliers will still be very desperate to win.
