The Cleveland Cavaliers will forever be tied to LeBron James and vice versa.
You can’t talk about one without mentioning the other, and even after James retires, there will always be rumors involving him and the organization.
However, the fact that he could return to the Cavs doesn’t necessarily mean that they should bring him back.
Ethan Sands of Cleveland.com recently expressed some concerns about James’ possible impact on one player in particular.
βIt is already hard enough for Evan Mobley to be a star next to Donovan Mitchell. Throw LeBron James into that conversation, and it becomes exceedingly more difficult for Evan Mobley, especially because you can no longer hide in the shadows,” Sands said.
Of course, James is already a legend, whereas Mobley needs to continue to earn his stripes.
Even so, he’s the present and the future of the organization, and he has the potential to be one of the next two-way superstars in the league.
The Cavs should be wary of stunting that development by pairing him with someone who has historically turned his power forwards into corner shooters.
Chris Bosh was one of the best two-way power forwards in the game with the Toronto Raptors.
Then, as teammates with James, he was the third-scoring option on the Miami Heat.
The same applies to Kevin Love, who was one of the most dominant rebounders and efficient scorers in the game before becoming a complementary piece alongside James with Cleveland.
The Cavs need to build around Mobley and think about the future instead of being stuck in the past.
