The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t been too wildly busy during the NBA offseason, but do they need to be?
After all, the team was the top squad in the East during the last regular season, and they have made some adjustments.
However, these tweaks have appeared minor, but that might be part of the plan.
A new episode of a popular Cavaliers podcast dug into changes that will provide depth for the team in the upcoming season.
“This depth-focused approach addresses Cleveland’s conditioning dilemma from two angles. First, it reduces regular season workloads for key players, preserving energy for playoff intensity. Second, it provides viable alternatives when starters need rest during grueling postseason battles. The message is clear: The Cavaliers are done hoping health luck changes. Instead, they’ve embraced an aggressive, proactive approach to ensure they’ll never again watch helplessly as a faster, more conditioned team runs them off the floor in April,” per Wine and Gold Talk Podcast.
The additions of Lonzo Ball and Larry Nance Jr. might not seem like massive changes, but they could be perfect for this team.
The Cavaliers were close to true dominance last year, but they faced a couple of problems: Eastern Conference competition and injuries.
The competition in the East will be different next season, especially since both Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton will be gone.
And the injury problem could be addressed with the added depth that is coming from Ball and Nance.
Other supporting stars, such as Sam Merrill, may get more time in the limelight too.
The Cavs would love for their luck with injuries to change, but they have to plan as if it won’t.
Therefore, they are going to focus on adding depth and hope that it will help the team last longer and do more throughout the long, draining regular season.
