You can’t talk about Cleveland Cavaliers history without mentioning LeBron James’ name multiple times, and vice versa.
James is, by any and every measure, the greatest player in franchise history, and it would take a whole lot for that to change.
That’s why some fans and analysts will always fantasize about the idea of another reunion.
With that in mind, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that there’s still a chance that James will reconsider going back to Cleveland for what might be his final season in the league in 2026-27:
“I believe that a third stint with the Cavaliers would be the closest thing to a storybook ending should James indeed decide that he wants to play on in 2026-27, but it’s unclear how open Cleveland would actually be to such a reunion,” per Marc Stein.

Multiple reports show that James and the Cavs haven’t always been on the best of terms.
Even so, the team could and should be open to a reunion if the price makes sense.
The ball is literally on LeBron James’ court.
He’s a billionaire, so while he’s got every right to maximize his value and pursue another lucrative deal, money shouldn’t be a major factor in that decision.
The Cavaliers are in a tough spot, financially, and that won’t change for years unless they break up their core four.
As such, James could choose to head back home and play for them at a discount, maybe even taking the veteran’s minimum to make things work.
The Cavs could even try to trade for Bronny and draft Bryce to give him a chance to suit up with both of his sons.
But if he wants to chase another big-money deal, which, again, is his right, then it might be a hard pass for his hometown team.
