The Cleveland Cavaliers have already made some tweaks and changes this summer, but they could commit to more soon.
A lot of fans are asking if Dean Wade will be part of the squad when the season kicks off this fall.
Speaking to Bleacher Report, Jake Fischer discussed the Wade situation in Cleveland and made it sound like trade talks around him may have died down.
“There’s definitely been conversations about Dean Wade this summer. I mean, he’s someone that I think a lot of teams look at as an easy, low-cost, plug-and-play, multiple positional defender, but I think a lot of the Dean Wade conversation was more back when the Cavs were looking at the deal that turned into Lonzo Ball. I think the Cavs were looking at either one of Isaac Okoro or Dean Wade heading out the door at one point in time, and they turned Isaac Okoro into Lonzo Ball. So, I have not admittedly checked in on the Dean Wade trade market up to this minute, but the last I heard was that it was kind of a one or the other situation of Cleveland trading out one of those players and I’m not sitting here anticipating a Dean Wade trade anytime soon,” said Fischer.
So, teams were talking about Wade weeks ago, but the Lonzo Ball trade put an end to most of them.
The Cavaliers were open to moving Wade, but that apparently all changed when they received Ball.
To be clear, they might still part ways with Wade.
Yet, right now, it seems like they aren’t thinking about it as much as they were.
Wade brings a lot of skill to the Cavaliers, so they could be wise to hold onto him.
Last season, he averaged 5.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists on 41.3 percent from the field.
As Fischer said, he’s a good plug-and-play star who can be versatile off the bench.
If the right deal comes along, moving him could be smart, but the Cavs may keep him on their roster for at least a bit longer.
