The Cleveland Cavaliers probably aren’t done tweaking their roster ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Some of the team’s most beloved players, including some crucial bench stars, could be leaving right before the new year kicks off.
Writing for Hoops Wire, Sam Amico spoke about the future for forward Dean Wade.
“One league source told me he believes it’s ’50-50′ on whether the Cavs trade Wade before the season. While Cleveland isn’t feeling desperate to move him, interest across the league has been high because Wade does such a nice job defensively, the source said. I strongly suspect the Cavs want to bring in a viable backup center/power forward, and I predict they will do just that before training camp in the fall. But they’re in no hurry. How any of it impacts Wade remains to be seen, but know this — the Cavs are far from determined to move him. They’ve already made it clear they’re not just going to give him away,” Amico wrote.
So, the bottom line is this: Wade might be leaving the Cavaliers, but they aren’t in a rush to move him.
And they definitely aren’t going to give him away for nothing, demanding a decent haul in exchange for him.
Last season, Wade averaged 5.4 points and 4.2 rebounds during 59 games, starting in 30 of them.
He will likely remain a part of the second unit in the new season, unless he moves to another location.
The Cavs aren’t against the idea of trading Wade, even right before training camp.
But they will only commit to a move if they are offered something special.
According to Amico, they are looking for a backup center or power forward – but who could they choose?
The longer the Cavaliers hold onto Wade, the fewer options they have on the trade market.
There is a chance that Wade leaves, but there is also a strong possibility that he is still in Cleveland when the new season begins in the fall.
