Jaylon Tyson has been making a good impression on the Cleveland Cavaliers during the NBA Summer League, but he doesn’t want it to stop in the offseason.
Instead, Tyson has his sights set on becoming an important part of the team in the 2025-26 regular season.
Speaking with NBA.com, he laid out his plans and talked about how he could make the team even better.
“Honestly, just be that piece that we didn’t have last year. I feel like there was a physicality that we didn’t bring, and I feel like I could bring that being an everyday guy. And then, just feeding off of our main guys, making them better. If I’ve got to get an extra offensive rebound or make an extra play, that’s what I’m willing to do. I want to make winning plays. When you make winning plays, everything else takes care of itself. I want to earn the trust of the team. Keep earning the trust of Donovan, Darius, Evan, and everybody. I’m excited. Honestly. Super-excited!” Tyson said.
Tyson said he wants to earn the trust of his fellow teammates, and his time at the Summer League is surely helping with that.
He has been showing that he is the sort of adaptable player who can fit into the lineup, no matter who the opponent is and what the Cavs need.
Adaptability is vitally important, and Tyson has proven that he has it.
But can he transition from doing well in the Summer League to earning minutes in the regular season?
He averaged 3.6 points and 2.0 rebounds during his 47 games in 2024-25.
He didn’t get much time on the floor, averaging just 9.6 minutes per game.
After his strong showing in the Summer League, Tyson might end up doing a lot more than that in the months ahead.
But the team is still very deep with a stacked roster, and it’ll be hard for him to become a starter or play in every game.
He knows his goals and believes in what he can do, but his spot on the team isn’t guaranteed.
Tyson thinks he is the missing piece for Cleveland, but will he be given the chance to prove it?
