The Cleveland Cavaliers needed a backup point guard, and they also needed someone who could light it up from beyond the arc.
That’s why targeting Tyrese Proctor was such a no-brainer decision for this organization.
Proctor made a name for himself in college for his big-time shot-making ability, and it didn’t take long before he turned heads in the Summer League as well.
As pointed out by the Cavs on X, the Duke product was tied for the most points in any game in this edition of the Las Vegas Summer League.
He torched the Sacramento Kings for 35 points to go along with four assists, three rebounds, two steals, and four three-pointers.

The second-round pick knocked down 11 of 24 shots while going 4-for-14 from three-point territory and 9-of-9 from the charity stripe.
Proctor is more than used to sharing the court with other stars, and he’s not the type of player who needs to have the ball in his hand to catch a rhythm on offense.
He’s absolutely lethal in catch-and-shoot situations, and his work ethic also granted him plenty of respect during his days at Durham.
Reports indicate that the Cavs aren’t fully sold on Craig Porter Jr. and still need to see him put in the work to earn more minutes.
Darius Garland and Lonzo Ball are both injury-prone and will most likely miss time at any point next season, so even though it won’t be easy, Proctor might crack his way into Kenny Atkinson’s rotation in his first year in the league.
