The NBA Summer League has started, and basketball fans are paying close attention, hoping to see glimpses of the future.
Several teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, are hoping to impress with up-and-coming stars.
Writing for ESPN, Jeremy Woo talked about Jaylon Tyson, who could be a standout player for the Cavaliers in the Summer League.
“The Cavaliers only made two second-round selections this year, meaning last year’s 20th overall pick (Tyson) is the headliner of their summer league group. He was called upon sparingly on a very good Cleveland team in 2024-25, but he could be ticketed for more of a role next season after the Cavs traded Isaac Okoro to the Bulls for Lonzo Ball. Tyson’s positional size and offensive chops should stand out in Vegas,” Woo wrote.
The Summer League often features young rookies who haven’t spent any time in the league, but that isn’t Tyson.
He was drafted in 2024 and produced an average of 2.6 points and 2.0 rebounds for the Cavaliers in 2024-25.
He played in 47 games but only started in three of them and received an average of just 9.6 minutes per night.
Clearly, Tyson wants to do even more for his team, and playing well in the Summer League could be key to making that happen.
If he can impress and make an impact, he might earn a more permanent spot on the roster in 2025-26, getting more minutes and chances to shine.
Tyson knows just how valuable the Summer League is and hopes to make the most of it.
He has the chance to be a team leader for the Cavaliers in the summer, and that might create a promising path for him in the regular season.
