The Cleveland Cavaliers’ decision to sign Larry Nance Jr. made perfect sense for both parties.
He is the kind of low-money reinforcement the team could afford, and he gets a chance to go back home.
Asked about his return to Ohio, the Akron native admitted that while he always wanted to win regardless of where he played, he’s always been a Cavs fan.
“It’s just home. Whether it’s playing for the [Atlanta] Hawks or for the [New Orleans] Pelicans, yeah, I wanted them to win every game, but I’m a Cavs fan. This is a team that has a chance to really win it all and that’s what we’re gonna do this year,” Nance said, via Hoodi Garland.

The Cavaliers needed size, physicality and gritty defense, and Nance will provide all of those things.
He can hold his own against both forward spots and most centers, and he’s always been good in passing lanes because of his quick hands and long arms.
He can knock down an occasional 3-pointer, but he’s not going to be much of a factor on offense, though he can give the team eight to 10 points with enough touches.
He’s a putback specialist who’ll be a threat above the rim, even at 32 years old.
The Cavs will continue to rely on Jarrett Allen in the paint, but he’s struggled in the playoffs more often than not.
Nance, though not as gifted as Allen, is a proven veteran with extensive postseason experience, and he will provide the physicality that Allen has lacked.
More importantly, Nance will leave it all on the court on any given night.
