The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Tyrese Proctor out of Duke on Thursday night, and they couldn’t be happier about it.
Following the draft, Cavaliers assistant general manager Mike Gansey had nothing but praise for the young NBA prospect.
“You can’t have enough ball handlers,” Gansey said of Proctor, via Cleveland.com. “Can play on and off the ball. Can run him off screens. Can play pick and roll. Can get in the paint. He makes plays for others. He came over to Duke a year earlier probably than he should have. We ended up seeing him at his pro day in California in May and I think he put on about 10 or 11 pounds, so he’s definitely worked on his body. Great kid and a worker.”
The Cavaliers used their No. 49 pick to get Proctor, which might end up being a steal.
While playing for Duke, he was named Third-Team All-ACC and was also named ACC All-Freshman Team back in 2023.
He was the best three-point shooter for his Duke team, sinking 89 of them on 40.5 percent from the field.
Unsurprisingly, he is known for his great perimeter shooting and is also good because of his versatility.
Proctor would love to get to work right away with the Cavaliers, but this is a very stacked team, and there is a chance he spends a lot of time on the bench or in the G League.
But no matter where he is, he could develop and prove himself, especially if he used that work ethic that Gansey talked about.
The Cavaliers were never going to be a major part of this year’s draft, but they seemingly made the most of it.
Now fans are waiting to see what their incoming players can do.
