Will the Cleveland Cavaliers attempt something substantial this summer, or will they be very timid when it comes to trades?
This is a question that all Cavaliers fans are asking after seeing their team fall short in the playoffs once again.
On his show for Bleacher Report, Rob Perez spoke about the path the Cavaliers may go down, and he warned them to be very careful.
“The Cleveland Cavaliers, where would they be in your consideration for future assets. Should they try and go for it next season by assembling these win-now type of assets and pieces if they haven’t already? If you do something like that, you’re likely liquidating a lot of your future currency,” Perez said.
Perez said that some teams have a lot on the line this summer and need to view it as a now-or-never situation.
He talked about the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and others, stating that they need to consider this offseason as a hugely important one.
As for the Cavaliers, he said they have the luxury of options and going slow if they wish.
Some people think that Cleveland needs to cash in their chips and make a big splash on the trade market.
They even believe the Cavaliers could and should trade away big names, like Darius Garland or Jarrett Allen.
And others feel the Cavs should round up some of their role players and bench stars and ship them off for an A-list, win-now talent.
But Perez says this could threaten what Cleveland has been building over the last several years.
How much of the future is put at risk by pursuing a roster that will immediately look better in 2025-26?
Should the Cavaliers be thinking of the far future or only next season?
They need to be very careful and balanced in their approach, or else it may be a long time before they are the top seed in the East again.
