The Cleveland Cavaliers need to find their reinforcements in the 2025 NBA Draft.
They don’t have a lot of wiggle room to add free agents, and unless they make a big trade, which seems unlikely right now, they won’t be able to bring in more firepower.
Unfortunately, they also don’t have a first-round pick either.
At least they can draft two NBA-ready prospects in the second round.
Jeremy Woo and Jonathan Givony of ESPN predicted the Cavs will use their two selections to land Michigan center Vladislav Goldin and Gonzaga guard Ryan Nembhard.
Those selections make sense for this team.
The lack of a backup big man was evident in the playoff loss to the Indiana Pacers, and they need someone who can give them quality minutes behind Jarrett Allen.
That’s not Tristan Thompson, at least not at this point in his career.
As for Nembhard, head coach Kenny Atkinson didn’t seem to trust Craig Porter Jr. during long stretches.
Ty Jerome isn’t a traditional point guard, and even if he were, chances are that he will leave as a free agent.
Nembhard is a seasoned player from a top-tier college program.
Though he doesn’t boast the upside of his brother Andrew Nembhard, who plays for the Pacers, he has outstanding court vision and could make an impact right away.
The Cavs reportedly will be without Darius Garland to start the season after he had surgery on his toe injury, so they will need someone to run the offense in the meantime.
