The Cleveland Cavaliers need to make some moves this offseason.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean they will be able to make them.
They’re facing salary cap concerns with four players signed to big contracts.
They also added De’Andre Hunter to the mix in an in-season trade, and he’s making more money than the average sixth man.
However, the Cavs might still be in line to make a big splash.
According to NBA Central, Bovada has them as a possibility to acquire Kevin Durant.
They’re tied with the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics at +3000 odds to get him, trailing the favored Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves and Toronto Raptors.

Spurs +300

Raptors +1200

Durant has reportedly listed the Heat, Spurs and Rockets as his preferred destinations, which is why they are the top favorites.
However, Durant doesn’t have a no-trade clause, so the Suns don’t have to trade him to any of those teams.
Then again, even if the Cavs have enough players to match his salary in a trade, and as great a player as Durant is, they might not have enough incentive to give up valuable assets to get him.
Durant has to buy in on any team that trades for him and agree to sign a new contract with them.
Otherwise, he would be nothing but an expensive rental.
The Cavs should strongly consider making a run at whoever’s available, especially after falling short in the playoffs after playing so well in the regular season.
But if they’re going to break up their core four, the Cavs should only consider doing so for someone who’s going to be there for the long run.
