Ty Jerome just had a terrific regular season run and became a highlight for a very successful and impressive Cleveland Cavaliers team.
But, will he be with them next season?
The Cavaliers have to make a choice about Jerome and his future with the team.
Writing for ESPN, Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst spoke about the decision before the Cavaliers.
“[Ty] Jerome, who was on a $2.5 million deal this past season with the Cavaliers, is in line for a very hefty raise from that number, sources said. The expectation around the league is that it will take the full midlevel exception — roughly $14.1 million — to get Jerome signed. Cleveland, however, is hoping to get him to return for a bit less, sources said, as it attempts to navigate the second luxury tax apron and the team-building challenges that go along with it,” per Bontemps and Windhorst.
Jerome averaged 12.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, on 51.6 percent from the field in 2024-25.
It was an explosive season for the young star, wildly better than what he had done for Cleveland before.
It just so happened that it came at a time when the team was attempting to put together a new deal for him.
Because of how well he did, he could draw interest from multiple teams.
The Cavaliers want Jerome to stay in Cleveland, but they also wish to be careful with their finances and avoid the luxury tax apron.
Can they make both things happen?
Can they offer Jerome a contract that he likes while also saving their money, too?
The Cavaliers have multiple tough decisions to make this summer, and this will be just one of them.
