The Cleveland Cavaliers shocked the world this season.
Not many people saw them having the best record in the Eastern Conference, much less splitting the season series with the Boston Celtics.
Unfortunately, that didn’t do much to help the Cavs in the playoffs, as they could only take one game from the Indiana Pacers in the second round.
Granted, watching the Pacers dominate their way to the 2025 NBA Finals may have redeemed the Cavs to a degree, but it was a disappointment nonetheless.
However, analyst Wosny Lambre doesn’t feel that way.
He thinks the Cavaliers are just getting started, and if they set their minds on taking down the Pacers and make moves accordingly, they can be the team to beat next season.
“I ended up having Cleveland [at No. 1 in the East next season]. They have three All-Stars on their team, all under the age of 28,” Lambre told Zach Lowe. “I don’t know how you watch Indiana play and say, ‘We can’t possibly beat them next year.’ Cleveland has to think they can beat Indiana next year. I think there’s something to having an offseason where you know what your target is, where it’s like, ‘Our target is Indiana next year.’ The guys are young, the guys are locked in contractually, that’s the best situation.”
From a talent standpoint, the Cavs have everything they need to be one of the best teams in the NBA.
They also have a talented head coach with a bright offensive mind who brought out the best from their stars.
Nevertheless, as much as teams have to go through growing pains before being the best version of themselves and getting over the hump, there are reasons to have doubts about this core.
The Cavs will have some tough decisions to make this offseason.
They won’t have a lot of money to make big-name moves, and the only way to change things might be to part with some of their stars.
