The Cleveland Cavaliers were pushed out of the playoffs by the Indiana Pacers, giving them a disappointing end to a historic and impressive season.
But just because the year is over for the Cavaliers doesn’t mean the team isn’t still working hard.
In fact, head coach Kenny Atkinson has gone into overdrive since his team lost, analyzing what went wrong and making plans to correct the problems plaguing the Cavaliers.
Writing for Cleveland.com, Chris Fedor said Atkinson has been intently studying the series against the Pacers.
“Sources tell Cleveland.com that Atkinson has made the film room his second home in the aftermath of Cleveland’s latest postseason flameout. He has rewatched the series numerous times, trying to figure out what went wrong and coming up with internal solutions,” Fedor wrote.
What went wrong for the Cavaliers?
Sadly, quite a bit.
For starters, the Pacers are just a really good team that has hit a whole other level in the playoffs.
They are shooting incredibly well, running at a fast pace, and controlling games on both ends of the court.
The Cavaliers had other problems, however.
They have been battling injuries and a few off-nights from certain players.
From the very beginning, the series against Indiana was not looking good for Cleveland.
This was Atkinson’s first year with the Cavaliers, and it was a hugely successful one.
He took the team to new heights, won Coach of the Year, and earned the loyalty of millions of fans.
This is likely just the beginning of a long tenure with the Cavaliers, so Atkinson is thinking of the future and how he can continue to push the team and make it better.
He will take time off during the summer, which is important, but Atkinson obviously has his sights set on next year and beyond.
