Donovan Mitchell has been on a tear for the Cleveland Cavaliers lately, notching back-to-back 40-point games and helping his team stay alive against the Indiana Pacers.
But the Cavaliers still face a 2-1 deficit, and they will need more help if they wish to even the series.
Writing for Cleveland.com, Ethan Sands called out who will need to step up for the Cavaliers.
“If the Cavaliers are going to become the sixth team in NBA history to come back from a 2-0 deficit after losing the first two at home, it won’t be by asking [Donovan] Mitchell to save them — it’ll be with [Evan] Mobley making his presence felt on both ends of the floor,” Sands wrote.
On Friday night, Mobley produced 18 points and 13 rebounds against the Pacers.
That was his first game back from an injury and the Cavaliers needed everything he provided.
But they will require even more in the days ahead because Cleveland is desperate to even the series on Sunday.
Mobley has been sensational all season, averaging 18.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game and earning Defensive Player of the Year.
It has been the best season of his career, but his work isn’t done yet.
The Cavaliers have turned to Mitchell consistently throughout the playoffs, partly because injuries have hurt the roster and left big holes in the lineup.
But Mobley is healthy again, and that means he needs to make up for lost time and give his all to the team.
He was getting back into the swing of things on Friday, but fans should expect to see him do even more in Game 4 on Sunday.
It is great to see Mitchell score so much, but the Cavaliers need more from other players, like Mobley.
