Just a few nights ago, Cleveland Cavaliers fans were unhappy with the output they saw from sixth man Ty Jerome.
They demanded he do more on the court, especially since the Cavs were down against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
On Friday night, Jerome had a chance to redeem himself and do more.
He didn’t.
Following his two points and three turnovers during Friday’s win over the Pacers, Jimmy Watkins gave a harsh assessment of Jerome.
“It might be time to shorten Jeromeās leash, at least for a game or two. No need to bench him and hurt his confidence. But Cleveland has almost no room for error after dropping Games 1 and 2,” WatkinsĀ wrote.
Whether he is in a temporary slump or has lost his mojo, the bottom line is clear: Jerome isn’t earning his minutes during this series.
He played for just 13 minutes on Friday, which was a step down from what he did a few nights before.
In Game 2 against the Pacers, Jerome actually earned his spot in the starting five, a huge playoff moment for the young star.
But head coach Kenny Atkinson is obviously reconsidering how much he puts on Jerome’s shoulders because he isn’t able to deliver, at least not right now.
This is not the time for a star shooter to lose his skill and get rusty.
The Cavaliers are still in a 2-1 hole against the Pacers, and they desperately want to even the series on Sunday.
They need all their stars to give everything they can.
No one should be surprised if Jerome isn’t around much during Game 4.
