The Cleveland Cavaliers are moving on.
They were heavily favored in all four games vs. the Miami Heat and rightfully so, and they made sure to make a statement in the first round.
Nevertheless, they are far from finished.
Following the series-clinching win, star PG/SG Donovan Mitchell made it loud and clear that the job isn’t done in the slightest:
“We have a bigger goal in mind. We’ve been doing special things all year, but we didn’t come here just to sweep in the first round and get to the second,” Mitchell said. “Got to finish our breakfast.”
That’s the kind of mindset you want from your leader.
Mitchell wants to set the tone and keep everybody focused for what’s to come, as it won’t be easy.
The Cavs are likely to square off with the Indiana Pacers in the next round, as they’re just one win away from taking down the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Pacers are a pesky team that will push the break over and over.
They’re deep, run an up-tempo offense, and can put up points in bunches and play a switch-heavy defense.
Notably, they beat the Cavs three out of four times this season, including back-to-back wins.
Needless to say, the playoffs are a different animal, but this is something worth noting nonetheless.
The Cavs led by as many as 61 points at one point in Game 4, and they outscored the Heat by 122 points in the four-game sweep, setting a new record for the largest point differential in any playoff series in NBA history.
Still, that won’t mean a thing unless they keep their foot on the gas and beat whoever they have to face in the upcoming round.
This is just the beginning.
