What does the future hold for Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers?
That is what fans of the team have been asking a lot lately.
Mitchell has yet to sign an extension with the team even though he seems committed right now.
President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman spoke with SiriusXM NBA Radio about Mitchell and what’s ahead.
Reminding fans that Mitchell still has two more years on his contract, Altman said, “Donovan has been an incredible partner for us.”
He added that the player has been a pivotal part of adding new acquisitions in the summer, working out with the team, and inspiring them to win in the new year.

Based on what Altman said, it sounds as if Mitchell isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
From a financial standpoint, it makes sense for Mitchell to hold off on signing a new extension until at least next summer.
He wants to get through the 2023-24 season, see how the team performs, and then plot his next steps.
But that doesn’t mean he isn’t committed.
During his first season with the team, Mitchell recorded 28.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.4 assists a game.
He was a crucial part of the squad’s strong regular season and helped them climb to the fourth seed in the East.
Throughout the year, they were one of the most consistent and impressive squads in the entire NBA.
However, that all came to an end in the postseason, when the New York Knicks pushed them out of the playoffs in the opening round.
With a year under his belt and an even stronger desire to win, Mitchell will continue to lead the Cavaliers in the new season.
Then he can get to the tough work of deciding on a new contract extension.
