The Cleveland Cavaliers will look different in 2025-26, giving several players chances to earn more minutes on the court.
One of those players could be Jaylon Tyson, who is attempting to prove a lot in this year’s Summer League.
Speaking with NBA TV, via SleeperCavs on X, head coach Kenny Atkinson talked about Tyson and what he brings to the team.
“You know how this goes. There are guys that want to make the league, they are trying hard and they are practicing hard. Then, there are guys who are desperate to make it. I’ll put Jaylon Tyson in that unique group. He just lives and breathes it. He gets after it every day. He’s like a 10-year vet. I’ve never seen a guy that he gets all the things he’s gotta do to get better. He’s desperate, and we need him. Losing Isaac [Okoro], losing wings. He’s going to have to observe that defensive role,” Atkinson said.

Atkinson makes it clear: Tyson is someone who wants to play even more for the Cavaliers.
But just because he has that desire doesn’t mean his wish will be granted.
The Cavaliers are a very deep team that has found a lot of success lately.
They haven’t gone as far as they have wanted, but they obviously retain a ton of promise and should still be considered one of the best teams in their conference.
That means that Atkinson and his staff may be hesitant to make big roster changes.
Therefore, Tyson will have to fight even harder and prove a lot if he wants more than the 9.6 minutes per game he averaged last year.
Atkinson likes Tyson, and he loves the energy and spirit he brings to the court.
However, it’s too soon for fans to expect a lot more of him in 2025-26.
