The Cleveland Cavaliers will continue to make moves.
According to multiple reports, they’re inching closer to signing defensive forward Javonte Green.
Green currently plays for the lottery-bound New Orleans Pelicans, but he’s reportedly set to be bought out, with the Cavs firmly interested in acquiring his services.
Should that be the case, Green will most likely have to choose a new uniform number to play for his fourth NBA team.
As Evan Dammarell pointed out on X, No. 4 – which he wears in New Orleans – is currently worn by Evan Mobley.
Unless #Cavs rookie Jaylon Tyson gives up his No. 24 to Javonte Green, then the vet will wear a new number:
4 (Pelicans), currently worn by Evan Mobley
11 (Bulls), retired for Zydrunas Ilgauskas
24 (Bulls), currently worn by Jaylon Tyson
43 (Celtics), retired for Brad Daugherty— Evan Dammarell (@AmNotEvan) February 20, 2025
He used No. 11 with the Chicago Bulls, but the Cavaliers retired that number for Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
He wore No. 43 with the Boston Celtics, but that was Brad Daugherty’s number, and it’s also retired.
So, unless rookie Jaylon Tayson agrees to give him No. 24, which he wore with the Chicago Bulls, he’ll have to find himself a new number.
Needless to say, that shouldn’t be much of an issue or a dealbreaker.
Green is an athletic and strong defensive-minded wing who will give the Cavs yet another stopper there.
Once they get Isaac Okoro and Dean Wade back, and with De’Andre Hunter’s arrival, this team will now have several solid defenders to match up with the best scorers in the game.
