Ty Jerome was able to enjoy his first game in the postseason with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.
Needless to say, he came to play and did quite well, posting 28 points on the way to Cleveland’s win over the Miami Heat.
Following the game, Donovan Mitchell talked with Cleveland.com about Jerome and all he’s doing for the team, and he said the Sixth Man of the Year candidate has always played like this.
“This is who he’s been. This isn’t a shocker,” Mitchell said. “I don’t think any of us are surprised at what he’s doing on a nightly basis. It is full circle to come back from when we were 8 years old, to my first basketball teammate, to now here we are. I know everybody’s going to react like this is a shock, but he’s been doing this for us all year.”
Mitchell and Jerome have a very special friendship and have been close for years.
In fact, they played together on a basketball team when they were both children growing up in New York.
It is wild to see them come such a long way.
They were once kids just having fun together on the court, and now they are championship contenders on one of the most exciting teams in the NBA.
Jerome has been a blessing for the Cavaliers, and the team is very happy to have him come off the bench.
The fact that he had such a stunning showing in his first playoff game has Cleveland fans very happy because they are thinking he could be a huge force throughout the postseason.
Mitchell is proud of his friend, but not surprised.
He has known Jerome for years and has always believed in his skills and ability to impact the game.
Now the rest of the world gets to see what Mitchell has known for decades.
