The Cleveland Cavaliers need Darius Garland to get back to full strength.
He’s their second-best scorer, and while he’s not much of a factor on defense, it’s not fair or accurate to say that they play better without him.
That’s why the fans might be thrilled to know that the young All-Star is trending in the right direction.
Talking at his annual celebrity softball game, Garland opened up on his recovery:
āI feel great. The recovery process is going well. But Iām here for my foundation,ā Garland said. āIām here to spread some positivity around the city of Cleveland and trying to have a good time. I always loved baseball, so I tried to make it a little bit competitive and kind of friendly as well.”
Garland will most likely miss the first stretch of the season.
Even so, the team should fare just fine in his absence.
The Cavs traded for Lonzo Ball, and while they will most definitely take things slowly and carefully with him, he should be more than capable of holding down the fort.
That will allow Garland to take as much time as he needs to get back to full strength instead of rushing his way back to the court.
Garland was tangled up in some trade rumors shortly after the Cavaliers’ heartbreaking elimination against the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the playoffs.
He was often targeted and exposed on defense, and his postseason woes have raised some questions about whether he’s the type of leader this team needs to get over the hump.
Unfortunately, that injury and surgery may have killed any hope of a trade, assuming the team even considered moving on from him.
This season will be crucial to change his reputation, and the Cavs will need him to be at his best at the end of the campaign, not just in the regular season.
