Bruce Drennan is one of the biggest personalities on the Cleveland sports scene, and like many other sports fans throughout Northeast Ohio, he has been tortured for decades as one local team after another has suffered heartbreaking defeat after heartbreaking defeat.
But right now, the Cleveland Cavaliers are going through a dream season, and there is a growing feeling that they have a great shot at winning the NBA championship this summer.
Drennan is excited about the Cavs these days, and he pointed out one sign that the team is a juggernaut — the fact that when it loses a game, it’s big news.

The Cavs have the NBA’s best record at 34-5, and they’re the best offensive team in basketball, as they rank second in points per game and first in offensive rating, field-goal percentage and 3-point shooting percentage.
New head coach Kenny Atkinson has let them run free offensively and play at a fast pace, but defensively, they’re still solid, as they rank eighth in defensive rating.
Cleveland reeled off 12 straight wins recently, but that streak ended on Sunday with a 108-93 loss to the Indiana Pacers, and that loss was indeed sizable news across the league.
But they got right back on track with a 127-117 win over those same Pacers on Tuesday, and on Thursday, they will meet the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road in a potential NBA Finals preview.
Last week, Cleveland defeated the Thunder 129-122, which further proved that they’re legitimate championship contenders and perhaps on their way to doing something truly special.
