The NBA regular season is heating up and racing toward the playoffs, which means we are getting closer and closer to the highly coveted end-of-season awards.
One of the most important awards is Most Valuable Player, and there are a few major stars in the running for the prize this year.
According to the latest MVP ladder from NBA.com, Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers remains on the list, but barely.
NBACentral shared the list with fans on X and Mitchell made the cut in tenth place.
Ahead of him are Jalen Brunson, Jaren Jackson Jr., Anthony Edwards, LeBron James, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jayson Tatum, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
https://t.co/wWGNmWnCY9’s updated MVP Ladder:
1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
2. Nikola Jokic
3. Giannis Antetokounmpo
4. Jayson Tatum
5. Karl-Anthony Towns
6. LeBron James
7. Anthony Edwards
8. Jaren Jackson Jr.
9. Jalen Brunson
10. Donovan Mitchell— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) February 14, 2025
Gilgeous-Alexander remains the frontrunner for this trophy and it seems that unless something really unexpected happens, he will likely win.
However, no one should ever count Jokic or Antetokounmpo out.
As for Mitchell, he has been on the MVP ladder for months, but he has typically been higher than tenth place.
For the season, Mitchell is averaging 23.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.
It’s not entirely clear why he has slipped in the ranking, but there is still a lot of time to climb higher.
The Cavaliers will get to enjoy their All-Star break and then will be right back to work, attempting to hold onto the top spot in the East and secure their spot in the postseason.
Mitchell will be at the center of all their plans so the better they do, the higher Mitchell will climb on this MVP ladder.
