The Cleveland Cavaliers are the best team in the NBA right now; there’s simply no way around it.
Most stats say so, and the eye test backs it up.
Moreover, they’ve beaten some very good teams so far this season, and they made a big statement on Wednesday night.
That’s why, now that they took down the No. 1 team in the Western Conference in front of a nationally televised audience, Donovan Mitchell had one simple message (via Sam Amico):
“We belong here. I don’t think we are waiting for the national media to say we belong. We know,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell had one of his worst games of the season.
He finished with just eleven points on 3-or-16 from the floor and 2-of-7 from beyond the arc, and some of those misses weren’t even close.
Then again, he still managed to knock down some timely shots and keep his teammates involved.
It was encouraging to see that the Cavaliers could win this game despite Mitchell’s struggles from the field.
Kenny Atkinson’s team approached this game as a playoff contest and took care of business.
Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen combined for 21 rebounds and 13 assists.
Having a big man duo capable of cleaning the glass and feeding their teammates usually translates into success.
The Cavaliers are now 32-4 for the season and remain undefeated against the Western Conference.
If that’s not a championship contender, then what team is?
Regardless of whether the media and talking heads want to acknowledge it, the Cavaliers sit in a tier of their own right now.
