The Cleveland Cavaliers have the best defensive player in the league right now.
Evan Mobley has been a force to be reckoned with, and he’s the leading candidate to take home the Defensive Player of the Year award.
With that in mind, the USC product admitted that even though he was a humble guy who just wanted to play his brand of basketball, earning that distinction was important to him.

With Victor Wembanyama out of the race, Mobley stands in a tier of his own to win the award.
He’s far ahead of Memphis Grizzlies star PF/C Jaren Jackson Jr., a former winner.
The Cavs have had a top-ten defense for most of the season, and Mobley has been their anchor and most crucial player there.
He can guard one through five, and his ability to keep people away from the rim is among the best in the league.
He’s drawn comparisons to a younger version of Anthony Davis, and while he’s not that kind of shot-blocker, he’s far more durable and as good a rim protector.
For years, experts claimed that Mobley was the X-factor to take this team to a whole new level, and this season has proved them right.
While Donovan Mitchell is still the leader and the leading scorer, Mobley is most definitely the most talented player on the roster.
He’s just getting started, and hopefully, this will be just the first of many individual distinctions going his way for the remainder of his career.
