We are about a month away from the start of the NBA playoffs, which means we are closer to end-of-season awards, including MVP.
Most people agree that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the frontrunner for the trophy but other players are in the mix too.
On Friday, NBA.com released its latest MVP ladder, via NBACentral, and it featured Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the fifth spot.
That’s a bit higher than he was in previous ladders and shows that his Cavaliers are still a huge threat to the rest of the league.
https://t.co/wWGNmWnCY9’s updated MVP Ladder:
1. Nikola Jokic
2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
3. Giannis Antetokounmpo
4. Jayson Tatum
5. Donovan Mitchell
6. Steph Curry
7. Evan Mobley
8. LeBron James
9. Cade Cunningham
10. Jalen Brunson— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) March 14, 2025
To make matters even better, Evan Mobley was also on the list, coming in as the seventh pick.
Meanwhile, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets had reclaimed the top spot, followed by Gilgeous-Alexander.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Steph Curry, LeBron James, Cade Cunningham, and Jalen Brunson filled out the rest of the ten.
The fact that two players from the Cavaliers made the cut is further proof of just how great their season has been.
They have sat in the top stop of the Eastern Conference since the start of 2024-25 and Mitchell and Mobley have been a major reason why.
They have respectively held down Cleveland’s front and backcourt and have worked wonderfully together.
This isn’t the first season as a unit, of course, but they are looking better than ever and have found a very stable and reliable partnership.
In all likelihood, neither Mitchell nor Mobley will be named MVP this season and the race will stay between Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander.
But the inclusion of these two on the latest MVP ladder is more great news for the Cavaliers.
