The Cleveland Cavaliers kept the same core from last season.
However, changing coaches unleashed an entirely new dimension of this team.
The Cavs’ offense has been on an absolute roll under Kenny Atkinson’s tutelage, and they rank near the top of the league in most categories.
As shown by Hoodi Garland on X, that includes 40-point quarters.

The Cavs have had 18 40-point quarters this season, the most in the league, and that’s already seven more than they had all of last year.
They hit the ground running with a 41-point first quarter in the win over the New York Knicks, and they never took their foot off the gas.
The Cavs are making sure to keep their opponents down and not give them any wiggle room to come back.
They’re trying to take care of business early on and make sure their starters are off of the court by the fourth quarter, just like the Golden State Warriors used to do during their dynasty days.
This team just put up 142 points against the Knicks, which are known for their defensive tenacity, and they didn’t even need starters to be on the court for more than 26 minutes.
Perhaps the best part about all of this is that while they have multiple players who can score 30 a night, they don’t need to rely heavily on anybody to have these kinds of offensive displays.
They play like a unit, and anybody can get hot on any given night as long as the ball keeps finding everyone.
