The Cleveland Cavaliers are tied for the best record in basketball this season.
Of course, everybody talks about Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and to a lesser degree – Jarrett Allen.
That makes perfect sense since they’re clearly ahead of the rest of the pack in terms of talent, minutes, and impact.
Nonetheless, this team has had several unsung heroes throughout the course of the season.
Of all, none has been as important as Ty Jerome.
At least, that’s how Jason Lloyd of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show feels.
In the latest edition of the show, he raved about the emergence of the team’s backup point guard.
They’ve gotten tremendous value from his team-friendly contract to the point where he has the same PER as Donovan Mitchell.
Jerome has been the team’s offensive catalyst off the bench.
He averages 11.4 points and 3.4 assists per game on 51% from the floor and 42% from beyond the arc.
Also, having him out there allows either Mitchell or Garland – and sometimes even both – to get a breather, as he’s more than capable of running the offense and functioning with the starters when needed.
Jerome has also taken pride in getting better on the defensive end of the floor.
He doesn’t want to be picked on or exposed, so he puts his body on the line with almost every possession.
You need stars to win in this league; that goes without saying.
Then again, teams that get the job done also have great role players.
